Kate grew up locally and has always been extremely active.  You name the sport she probably played it for at least a
few seasons.  However, it wasn’t until high school that Kate found her true passion, ice hockey.  After graduating, she was able to continue her ice hockey career at Penn State while earning a degree in finance.  While in college she worked part time both as an ice hockey referee and as an instructor for the Penn State ski classes at Tussey Mountain.

After college, Kate, by her own admission, was a little bit lost.  After all of those years of competitive sports, she was didn’t know how to train on her own and was missing the team atmosphere.   In an attempt to stay in shape, Kate started officiating hockey locally along with playing for local rec league teams.  After the 2006 season she was invited to attend a national officiating program camp.  This was the kick start she needed to refocus her goals and make fitness more of a priority in life.  In 2008 she earned her International Ice Hockey Federation officiating license, something only about 40 Americans get a year.  Since then she has been selected to work 6 different World Championship tournaments along with numerous other national team events.
In 2011, Kate’s college roommate started doing Crossfit and would not stop telling her how much she thought Kate would love it.  After much harassing, Kate finally agreed to take the plunge and attend a class.  Going in to that first class, Kate was confident she was in good shape and a strong athlete.  However, as she saw other girls ripping off pull ups she realized maybe she wasn’t in as fit as she thought she was.  Kate immediately signed up and hasn’t looked back.  For her, Crossfit replaced that competitive team environment that she had missed so much after finishing playing college hockey.
In 2015 Kate decided to further immerse herself in the Thermal community and got her CrossFit Level 1.  Coaching has been an eye opening experience and she now feels just as excited when someone hits a PR as she does when she hits her own PR’s.  Favorite quote that definitely rings true in Crossfit –  “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” -Wayne Gretzky
